Wai, India
In 2014, I travelled with students from Westminster College, serving as translator and teacher of science lessons to underprivileged 7th and 8th grade students in the village of Wai. I also taught workshops and lessons to those with mental disabilities at the Akshar Institute, Wai. Finally, I worked as part of a campaign for the empowerment of young girls at the local library, through science and photography workshops.
In 2015, I travelled to Wai on my own to teach English and literature comprehension lessons to 8th grade students at Wai High School. We discussed concepts such as plot, setting, characterization, and theme, and how they can be used to analyze works of literature. I also taught a poetry creation workshop to the students, and held a hygiene workshop for fifth and sixth grade students.
In 2016, I conducted a book drive at West High School and delivered over 400 books to the Wai School Library, to help students practice English.
